In the first ever U9 Wolverhampton City Championship, we had no idea what the standard would be like. We knew we had a good team with six of the seven boys representing our Y6 school team at some point this year. We started the tournament strongly, in a group of 6 teams. We played 5 matches, winning all five games. The toughest game was against Woodthorne, where we won 3-2 and we were losing twice during the game. That meant we qualified for the quarter finals where we met Stow Heath. We won that game 3-0 to set up a semi final against our friends from Oak Meadow. This game was much closer finishing 1-0 to Fallings Park to set up a final against Christ Church.
In the final game, we went 1-0 up very quickly with a fantastic goal from Kyle and we defended extremely well until the last 30 seconds where Christ Church pounced on a mistake to equalise. This sent the game into a penalty shootout to decide the winner. It was very tense but Kyzer managed to save Christ Church’s last penalty, meaning we became city champions. A fantastic achievement for all concerned. Well done boys!
