The girls’ football team travelled to the Wolves Training Ground at Compton Park to play the city finals. We hadn’t played together as a team before so it was a good experience playing against some good schools with established teams.
In our first game, we played against Woodfield. We attacked very well and managed to get a goal to win our first game 1-0 with a goal from Tia. Our next game was against The Grammar School. They were a strong team who played very well against us and unfortunately, we lost 1-0. Next, we played Field View and it was tough game. We managed to draw 0-0. We played our next game against Trinity. Both teams were evenly matched and despite us missing some good chances, it finished 0-0. This meant we had to have a penalty shootout against Field View to determine who would qualify in 2nd place to the semi-finals. The penalties were very tense and Darcie made some excellent saves. We won the penalty shootout 5-4 to go through to the semi-finals. An excellent achievement.
In the semi-final, we played against Villiers. They were an experienced team, as they had won the competition last year and had some returning players. Unfortunately, they were too strong for us and we lost 2-0.
We finished 4th in the end and it was a great experience which everyone really enjoyed.
