On Wednesday 5th April Fallings Park football team took part in the City finals of the 5 a-side tournament. The previous week, they had qualified by winning all of their group games without conceding a goal.
The first match was against Warstones Primary. After some crunching tackles and fabulous goals, Fallings Park emerged victorious. We also managed to win our second match versus Springvale Primary, although not without a scare. A late goal was disallowed, much to our relief. We were playing some marvellous, smooth possession football and showing great teamwork Furthermore, great sportsmanship was shown by everybody involved: all players shook hands at the end of each game.
Finally, the last group game was against Springdale Primary. Fallings Park swiftly took the lead and then added another to lead 2-0. However, Springdale pulled one back and nearly equalised, but we held on to win 2-1 and advance to the semi-finals.
The semi-final was against Uplands, who tried their best to take the game to Fallings Park, but it was no use; Fallings Park were too strong and ran out 3-0 winners.
The final was against a really talented Elston Hall team, a well-known opponent from earlier in the season. Despite trying our best to get revenge, and a very close match, they proved slightly too strong in front of goal and defeated us 2-0. This meant we were runners-up in the whole of the city.
Amazing teamwork boys! Well done, better luck next year!
